Antique hand-colored engraving depicting Balfron Castle in Scotland, dating to circa 1845.
The pastoral scene depicts the castle beyond a rolling Scottish landscape with figures and livestock in the foreground. Subtle hand coloring in muted greens, blues and grays gives the engraving a beautifully understated appearance.
An original label retained on the reverse identifies the piece as “A Genuine Old Engraving,” hand colored and dating to circa 1845. The artist and engraver are unknown.
The engraving has been professionally matted and framed at a later date in a dark wood-tone frame with gilt inner detailing and protective glass. A Carlson Paint, Glass and Art Stores framing label from Illinois remains on the reverse.
Overall framed dimensions: 15.25” W × 13.5” H.
Good antique/vintage condition with age-appropriate toning and minor wear. Frame shows light wear consistent with age and display. Please review all photographs for condition.
A charming piece of 19th-century Scottish architectural art, particularly suited to a traditional gallery wall, library, study or layered country interior.
