A beautifully atmospheric pair of antique 19th-century Scottish landscape prints depicting two of Scotland’s most celebrated views: Balmoral Castle and Loch Lomond.
The first depicts Balmoral Castle nestled within the sweeping Highland landscape, with figures gathered in the foreground and mountains rising in the distance.
The companion view is titled “Loch Lomond, From the Road above Inversnaid Mill,” a known 19th-century Scottish landscape composition after Thomas Allom. The richly colored scene depicts Loch Lomond surrounded by mountainous terrain, with figures on horseback overlooking the water.
Both are presented behind glass in warm-toned wood frames with narrow gilt inner moldings. The simple frames complement the deep greens, blues and earthy tones of the landscapes beautifully and give the pair an especially charming collected-country-house appearance.
Sourced together at a flea market in France and offered as a pair.
Measurements: larger frame approximately 13.25” × 10.75”; smaller frame approximately 11.75” × 9.75”.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. The prints show expected toning, discoloration and surface variation consistent with age. The wood frames exhibit scratches, marks, small losses and general wear. The gilt inner moldings show additional rubbing and patination. The paper backings are aged, torn and previously repaired or reinforced in areas, with later hanging hardware present. Both remain highly decorative and ready to display.
